Meagan Steele, CRNP
Medical Director | Kismet
Meagan Steele is a board-certified family nurse practitioner credentialed by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the co-founder and Medical Director of Kismet Ketamine, Psychotherapy and Wellness. Her path to building one of the most clinically sophisticated ketamine practices in the region was not accidental. It was the product of an unusually broad and deep foundation in clinical medicine — built over years of frontline nursing experience before she ever entered the practitioner role — combined with a specific intellectual curiosity about where the leading edge of mental health treatment was heading.
Meagan earned her Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University, one of the country’s most rigorous academic institutions, where her clinical instincts were formed alongside a strong grounding in the sciences. She went on to complete her Master’s degree at the Medical University of South Carolina — a program known for its demanding clinical training and research emphasis. Between those two chapters, she spent several years working as a surgical nurse, immersed in the pharmacology of the operating room. That environment — where precision with anesthetic agents is not optional and where patient physiology must be read and responded to in real time — gave Meagan a working knowledge of pharmacokinetics and patient safety that most nurse practitioners simply do not have. She did not learn about medications by reading about them. She learned by watching how they work in the body, under pressure, when the stakes are high.
When Meagan became a nurse practitioner, she carried that pharmacological fluency directly into her clinical work. She began caring for patients with chronic pain and treatment-resistant mood disorders — the people for whom standard interventions had not been enough — and it was in that population that she encountered ketamine. The research was compelling. The clinical results she observed were more compelling still. Ketamine was doing something that other treatments could not: reaching people who had been unreachable, creating openings in conditions that had been closed for years. Meagan did not approach that finding casually. She pursued it with the same rigor she had brought to every other stage of her training, developing deep expertise in ketamine protocols, patient selection, dosing, safety monitoring, and the clinical integration of ketamine with psychotherapy and psychiatric care.
That expertise is the foundation of Kismet. Meagan co-founded the practice with the conviction that ketamine therapy — done properly, with appropriate medical oversight, with rigorous patient evaluation, and in genuine coordination with mental health professionals — could offer something genuinely transformative to people who had run out of options. Not ketamine as a last resort. Ketamine as a carefully administered clinical tool, embedded in a model of care designed to maximize what it makes possible.
As Medical Director, Meagan oversees every aspect of the medical side of Kismet. She conducts comprehensive evaluations before any client begins ketamine therapy, reviewing medical history, current medications, psychiatric status, and individual risk factors to determine whether ketamine is appropriate and how it should be administered. She designs and supervises all treatment protocols. She is present throughout infusion sessions, monitoring patient safety and responding to anything that arises. And she coordinates closely with the therapy team — aware of where each client is in their psychological work, and calibrating her medical recommendations accordingly. When a client is also receiving psychiatric medication management or engaged in trauma-focused psychotherapy at Kismet, Meagan is in communication with those providers. That coordination is not incidental to her role. It is central to it.
What Meagan has built at Kismet reflects something that is genuinely rare in ketamine medicine: a practice where the medical rigor is uncompromised and the integration with therapeutic care is real. For clients who come to Kismet having tried everything else, Meagan’s depth of clinical expertise — and her commitment to working as part of a team rather than in isolation — is often exactly what has been missing from every prior attempt at treatment.
